Review: Jack and Ahlia by Melissa Watkins

Jack and AhliaJack and Ahlia by Melissa Watkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh this was such a joy to read. I feel like I was friend to both Jack and Ahlia. I didn't want to put this book down, please tell me there will be a part two. Melissa captured the pure essence of if I were in love with my best guy friend, all the emotions and history.

Jack and Ahlia explore so many topics that resonated with me, from long lasting friendships to can women and men truly be just friends only.

This book comes with a Spotify playlist https://open.spotify.com/user/fabmel/...

How cool is that? I mean really, reading Melissa this was simply ingenious. I was able to read and when the lyrics of a song came up in the text, you know I was singing the songs. It really took me back to 90's R&B, when music was original. Not knocking this generation's artists, but the 90's were the truth for me. Bad Boy Take That Take That!!!

Book Review: Missing by Adiva Geffen

MissingMissing by Adiva Geffen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Missing by Adiva Geffen was quite an interesting suspenseful mystery novel. It was a multifaceted novel that had many many layers. The best part of this novel was the development of characters. Geffen thoroughly delved into the psyche of each character. I greatly appreciated this it helped to push the story along and helped distinguished each character as well.

While the plot of Missing was well established, the beginning of the novel was a little slow. We start off with the murder of a young girl and then go back in time for how it happened. The premise is great but the delivery was lacking. The story for me did not really keep my attention until after chapter twenty-two. But once it took off it really took off.

As the reader, I really connected with Dikla and Sammy. Those women had total spunk and although they are a little rough around the edges, Geffen really makes you believe or start to believe in their cause. The conspiracy theory and cult-like atmosphere surrounding this mystery lead a sense of urgency to find out what happens to Daria and others like her.

Overall, this novel had great potential and despite the slow start, it was a real good read. If you are looking for a true mystery novel with a little action and snarky comebacks, Missing will fall right in line with you. While there is a small amount of romance in this novel it mainly falls in the mystery/thriller genre.

Review: And Then I Met Margaret by Rob White

And Then I Met Margaret And Then I Met Margaret by Rob White
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rob White's "And Then I Met Margaret" gave me complete hope in the future. I say this because this book of stories was not only very easy to read but it was quite inspirational. White starts the stories out in childhood and progresses through each stage of his life. What I found most endearing was his ability to find lessons in some of the simplest creatures to the famous people.

White's life was by no means an easy one but the moral of his story was to never stop believing and never take the easy way out. Although the book promotes positivity, definitely positive thinking, I could sense his struggle to never be poor again. Yes, he is rich now but he was not always and he has a true "Started from the bottom, now I am here" story.

Each chapter brings the reader a new catchy saying and ends it with more food for thought. In his lessons, I was able to apply the point to my everyday life, my dreams and aspiration. "And Then I Met Margaret" has me looking closer at the people in my life and those new faces that I meet. You never know may be placed in your path to assist you on your journey; that is the biggest lesson learned from this book.

Learn to be more observant. Learn to really open your eyes and experience life. Learn to listen with all of your faculties. Learn from your past mistakes. Rob White gave a blueprint, not "the" blueprint, but a version of one that I simply found refreshing. Bits and pieces will help me on my journey and I hope that others will read this with an open mind as well.

Winter by Reece Ran ~ Book Review

Winter Winter by Reece Ran
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reece Ran's "Winter" was an unexpected roller coaster ride of adventure, mystery, drama and twisted comedy. It read to me like a science fiction with a twist of horror in it. Without giving anything away Ran gives you immediate action at the beginning of this novel. There is something in the snow, or the snow itself is alive. But not only is there an issue with the snow but can one trust the people in your family or your immediate circle. The story is told from the view of the main character, Zimmer Mac. Mac a father, husband, and soldier must put his family back in order and protect them and friends from a very harsh winter.

The story is set in the future well past the year of 2040 and not much technology wise has changed. What surprised me most is the way Ran gets the reader hooked on the action then the "who did it" phase keeps kicking in. I was constantly guessing about who was doing the killing and who was stealing people? Needless to say, I did not have it right at the end but the journey to the very last page had me on edge. Ran's writing style is quick witted and flows quite nicely. Although this is not a zombie novel, I did have the fleeting thought that it should have zombies in it. Low and behold, it was like Ran read my mind and someone mentioned very briefly the word zombie (lol).

Overall I had a great time reading this novel. Although a two or three times a few of the paranormal characters were a little over the top in actions, Ran did balance it very well overall. Looking forward to Reece Ran's next piece. If you wish to read a novel with action and horror with a twist of mystery this is the book for you. I promise you will enjoy it.

Review: Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden

Horizon Alpha: Predators of EdenHorizon Alpha: Predators of Eden by D.W. Vogel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Horizon Alpha was a great read. I did not want it to end. It is a coming of age story of young man by the name of Caleb. It shows his journey into manhood and how he maneuvers through the trials and tribulations of life in an alternative world. Earth is no more and mankind must survive at any costs. No matter how far in the future this story goes it always seems as thought past will repeat itself at some point.

Throughout this novel we see the vast jungle of the this new planet. The inhabitants are of dinosaur ancestry or that what they seem to be from the descriptions. My favorite of the beasties are the wolf like creatures, they are cunning, have their own language and hunt in packs just like those of this world.

Caleb is the main character and Vogel gives him a daunting task that Caleb will struggle with the entire novel. That task is to simply survive. This new world is not human friendly and is now an age and time when a 15 year old is considered a full fledged adult. The storyline is simple survive and keep the population multiplying. However, the Predators of Eden did not get that memo and will try to eat anyone dumb enough to get in their path. Great story, amazing character development and awesome action/adventure.

Horizon Alpha: Predators of Eden will be available for $0.99 May 17 - 25

The Future House Publishing will be giving away a few hard copies of the book starting May 21st.  Please visit the below link to register:

Dark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller Novel by Dana V. Moison

Dark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller NovelDark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller Novel by Dana V. Moison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this book was simply a page turner. Dana Moison, my hat goes down to you. I was captured at the prologue and completely hooked after reading the first chapter. This r3eading experience brings drama, action, and the true sense of a psychological thriller. The twist and turns between the Kelly character and the detective kept me on my toes and guessing. I honestly thought we had solved everything midway through the novel, but Moison completely tricked me. If you enjoy a good mystery/thriller that flows and has you not wanting to put the book down; this novel is definitely for you. Grade A Dana can't wait to read some more of your work.

The Spotless series by Camilla Monk - Book Review

Spotless (Spotless #1)

It was like an addiction this novel is absolutely captivating. I could not put it down. There is comedy, drama, romance and action. Camilla really invested in Island and March's characters. Their chemistry is quirky but spot on. Island is amazingly smart and although inexperienced she stillness solid presence. Martha's strength and street smarts in my opinion doesn't compare to Island's quirky detective skills. Will they make it as a team? Will the romantic spark become a full fledged flame? I cannot wait to read book 2.

Beating Ruby (Spotless #2)

As promised Camilla delivers again. Beating Ruby brings more action, more romance, more comedy and yes definitely drama. Camilla's writing style is captivating; I get so into the characters and plot that I did not want to put the book down. Island is my girl, her strength and BS meter keep me in stitches throughout her adventures. Now she's got double the trouble and possibly double the romance. I cannot wait until the third installment is published. What I found really intriguing were the chapter intros. Camilla gives blurbs of other romance novels that set the tone for the chapters throughout her book; A+ for creativity.
