When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole ~ Book Review

When No One is WatchingWhen No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was quite a thriller. It really made me want to know more about gentrification and how it has been done in the past to present day. This is happening countrywide and now I'm noticing the signs in my city. Alyssa Cole, for me, weaved how she and Theo researched gentrification in the past and how the cycle was affecting their neighborhood presently. When No One is Watching gave me drama, romance, mystery, and thriller energy all at the same time. This was a real page turner for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Broken Places by Tracy Clark ~ Book Review

Broken Places (Cass Raines, #1)Broken Places by Tracy Clark
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Good ending

This book was real slow to start but has potential. The development of the characters was great. I understand where every party was coming from. I must say one of the good things about this novel was I didn’t solve the mystery at all before the last couple of chapters. But beyond that I really had high hopes for this novel it just took me entirely too long to get into it. There are 32 chapters and for me it did t start getting good until mid twentieth chapters.without giving anything away the ending was great I just wished it would’ve given me that same energy throughout the novel.

Review: The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer

The Escape Artist The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow just wow. The Escape Artist by Brad Meltzer simply amazing. This book to me on a real adventure, I mean edge of the seat type of ride. I could not put it down and it's a big book. Meltzer did his research, I learned a lot about history. You know there were lots of bits of nuggets of knowledge that had me researching magicians, past wars, things of that nature.

I do think a military dictionary or glossary would have been nice to have just as an add-on to the back of the book. If you are non-military there are few phrases and words that may trip you up during the reading (but nothing too big that will leave you completely lost).

Zig is my absolute favorite character, his commitment to a cause, a person, doing what is right is commendable. I did not solve the who done it question of this big, I was completely off, but that is what really made this book good in my opinion. Meltzer keeps the reader on his/her toes and second guessing. The book does toggle between the present and past, but it is not confusing. Meltzer did it in a way that it makes sense and it helps to build Nola's character.

There is a lot of kicking butt and taking names so to speak in the novel, but what you can't lose sight as is the small nuances, that's what moves the story a long. This was my first Brad Meltzer novel and if the rest of his work is done like this one I will be reading a lot more of it.

Book Review: Missing by Adiva Geffen

MissingMissing by Adiva Geffen
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Missing by Adiva Geffen was quite an interesting suspenseful mystery novel. It was a multifaceted novel that had many many layers. The best part of this novel was the development of characters. Geffen thoroughly delved into the psyche of each character. I greatly appreciated this it helped to push the story along and helped distinguished each character as well.

While the plot of Missing was well established, the beginning of the novel was a little slow. We start off with the murder of a young girl and then go back in time for how it happened. The premise is great but the delivery was lacking. The story for me did not really keep my attention until after chapter twenty-two. But once it took off it really took off.

As the reader, I really connected with Dikla and Sammy. Those women had total spunk and although they are a little rough around the edges, Geffen really makes you believe or start to believe in their cause. The conspiracy theory and cult-like atmosphere surrounding this mystery lead a sense of urgency to find out what happens to Daria and others like her.

Overall, this novel had great potential and despite the slow start, it was a real good read. If you are looking for a true mystery novel with a little action and snarky comebacks, Missing will fall right in line with you. While there is a small amount of romance in this novel it mainly falls in the mystery/thriller genre.

Dark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller Novel by Dana V. Moison

Dark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller NovelDark Illusion: A Psychological Thriller Novel by Dana V. Moison
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this book was simply a page turner. Dana Moison, my hat goes down to you. I was captured at the prologue and completely hooked after reading the first chapter. This r3eading experience brings drama, action, and the true sense of a psychological thriller. The twist and turns between the Kelly character and the detective kept me on my toes and guessing. I honestly thought we had solved everything midway through the novel, but Moison completely tricked me. If you enjoy a good mystery/thriller that flows and has you not wanting to put the book down; this novel is definitely for you. Grade A Dana can't wait to read some more of your work.

Dancing Bear ~ Oren Sanderson

Dancing BearDancing Bear by Oren Sanderson
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Dancing Bear by Oren Sanderson is filled with action and keeps its word and true spirit to thriller fictions. The two main characters are believable. I must say I personally thought Kate was certifiable. But while they are on the run for their lives, Sanderson takes the reader on an adventure through multiple cities. Neither with any real experience, but they fight for their lives and try to determine which people are their friend or foe. Overall the book is great but the editorial revisions at the beginning half of the book were a slight distraction. Once you get past that I promise you will enjoy the storyline and the thrilling adventures presented.

Dangerous Times ~ Phillip Frey

Dangerous TimesDangerous Times by Phillip Frey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Where do I even begin? Phillip Frey's Dangerous Time is one book I could not put down. This crime thriller kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. The characters are so well developed that you feel for them and want the best outcome in all situations. Frey displays a great skill in keeping the reader second guessing on what's to come. Not to give anything away in the storyline, but I absolutely adored the characters: Kirk and Ty for some reason they just completely made the novel come alive to me. If you wish to experience a well-written crime thriller novel I definitely recommend Dangerous Times. This novel is short and starts off in the middle of action. There is no down time in this novel as every page, every word is dedicated to solving the case. Enjoy!

Acting Obsessed ~ Peter Silverman

Acting ObsessedActing Obsessed by Peter Silverman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Acting Obsessed is a very involved thriller fiction. Silverman really digs deep into the developing the main characters in particular the female, Ginger. At points in the story you begin to question the sanity of all the characters involved. Silverman also put a little bit of mystery in with the storyline. I found that every time I thought I had all the puzzle pieces together, Silverman threw something in the mix that had me doubting my resolution.

This novel will have you literally on the edge of your seat anticipating on what will happen to the young actress next. Well written and I love the way it flowed seamlessly. There were, in my opinion, no dull sections to make me want to put the novel down and pick it up some other time. I had to solve the mystery then and there.

Great work
