The Club X Series - Book 2: Book Review

Den of Desire (The Club X Series Book 2)Den of Desire by Shauna Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A dangerous route to love. Den of Desire by Shauna Hart was a very interesting book that kept me hooked from page to page. I absolutely loved Joe and Mara's story. The romance novelist (lol inexperienced)meets the sex club expert. At first I thought it would be a cliche dom/submissive story but it was way more than that. Shauna really brought a since of mystery and drama to the whole love story. It was definitely a roller coaster ride of who is after Mara or is it someone with a lustful eye for Joe causing this couple so much drama and literal pain. I will definitely have to back track and read book 1 in this series.

How the Water Falls ~ K.P. Kollenborn

How the Water FallsHow the Water Falls by K.P. Kollenborn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How the Water Falls by K.P. Kolleborn was such a touching novel. It depicts the lives of both white and black people during and slightly after the years of Apartheid. I must say this book did take me a few days to read, but I am glad I made it from cover to end.

The strong actions of Lena a young black woman with a mind to see people treated fairly and the actions of the young white journalist Joanne; their characters truly took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I laughed, cried, became angry at the circumstances at the life people had to endure through and live.

This novel does not give you a whole picture of life during Apartheid. This novel provides a small glimpse into that time period. I took away so much from this and discovered that perseverance is the key to righting wrong. Amazing novel!

Country Love ~ Chelsea Dorsette

Country LoveCountry Love by Chelsea Dorsette
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Country Love by Chelsea Dorsette is quite the erotic drama romance. It of course had its steamy moments but thankfully Dorsette had some meat in the plot. Country Love is based out a city after my own heart, Nashville. The Nashville night life scene and country music is well represented in this novel. Main character, Paden, is a strong young woman career driven who meets and is completely floored by the handsome singer CJ. There relationship goes from 0-60 flat, but with this booming relationship comes dangerous plots from people who wish to see the relationship doom. Dorsette sets the reader on a fast paced drama that with each turn of the page will have you wanting for more. Dorsette proves that a novel can still be entertaining with drama and romance and not be encyclopedia long. I cannot wait to read another novel by Chelsea Dorsette; amazingly talented.

Broken Sky ~ Sauray Dutt

Broken SkyBroken Sky by Saurav Dutt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Broken Sky by Saurav Dutt was an amazing story of a beautiful woman with amnesia and a wild past trying to catch up with her. Dutt gives the reader drama, excitement and mystery all wrapped up in one novel. This novel reads just like a drama suspense movie. Once you start page 1 you will not want to put it down. Dutt characters are so well described and thought out that one feels as if they may know the character personally. As a reader I absolutely fell in love with Gina’s character, by her actions you could tell she was a very strong woman with a troubled past and a little bit eccentric. John made me truly believe he cared and although he had trouble in his past he was a genuinely good person. Dutt made Broken Sky believable because no one in this novel is perfect; hence the awesome naming of this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good read that displays a good plot with lots of drama and a hint of suspense and mystery.

Voodoo on Bayou Lafonte ~ Susan C. Miller

Voodoo on Bayou LafonteVoodoo on Bayou Lafonte by Susan C. Muller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Susan C Muller's novel Voodoo on Bayou Lafonte took me by surprise. The novel has a cinematic flow; Muller attention to detail is quite great. I felt as though I was watching a movie and not reading a novel. The main characters Remy and Gabby played strong characters. I am not sure how I would have acted if my child was missing. Although this is a mystery it still held drama and romance. At thank goodness Muller did not overdue the romance factor. This was an awesome read; I did not want to put it down. Looking forward to the next novel.

The cover of Voodoo on Bayou Lafonte was pretty fitting. You have a nice looking gentleman posing with a gun, open shirt and badge. The background shows the bayou and a silhouette of a woman. The silhouette of the woman brings a sense of mystery to the novel. As previously mentioned the cover compliments the novel quite nicely.

Oh my goodness, this novel just grabs the reader and you must hold on for dear life. Jaha Knight has the formula for capturing her audience and delivering a great story. I truly hope this is only the beginning for this series. Bring on Episodes 5-8. Every Soulphisticated Lady (main character) can be related to. For the most part we have all had strong friendships and there are at least one or two people we are not blood related to; but we treat as if they were flesh and blood. Drama, Comedy, Action you name it this novel has it all. The novel is written like a drama sitcom, you will enjoy each episode.

This novel brings it with a capital "B." It has drama, comedy, romance, action you name it is in here. The characters that make up the Soulphisticated Ladies are for the most part strong black women. Strong in their careers but the novel would be an eye catcher without a little conflict. These ladies test of friendship stands up to domestic violence, work abuse, emotional abuse, adultery and more.

Flash ~ Tim Tigner

FlashFlash by Tim Tigner
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tim Tigner’s novel Flash is full of action, suspense, drama and a little romance. Tigner gives new meaning to temporary amnesia and what would you do if you were being conspired against like the two main characters Troy and Emmy. Flash tells the story of Emmy and Troy and the adventures or troubles they endure after losing years of their memory and being blamed for crimes they do not believe they committed. The fast pace of the story line was well appreciated and Tigner did not mince words with some of the gruesome parts of the story. Readers will enjoy this novel because it is a fast read that gives you a full story from beginning to end. Corruption, guns, violence, romance and drugs with a hint of amnesia thrown in; a perfect recipe for a great action/suspense novel.

Viable ~ R.A. Hakok

viableviable by R.A. Hakok
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

R.A. Hakok’s novel Viable was an intense book with bits and pieces of mystery, drama, and science fiction. A discovery of a rare blood type with potential to cure many ailments and diseases plaguing society would be great. That is what makes this novel interesting. Going on the journey that intertwines the lives of an up and coming scientists/professor Alison, small town Sheriff and a mysterious man Grant was a great adventure written by Hakok. Although the beginning of the novel dragged a little and was lacking much needed action to thrust it forward; if the reader sticks in for the long hold it pays off. The novel eventually picks up in pace and the puzzle pieces start to come together.

Hakok’s writing style is mixed in the beginning of the novel it seems to be just informational no action; an attempt to get the facts laid down. Towards the middle and end of Viable, Hakok’s writing style is influenced by many elaborate action and discovery scenes. The reader gets a better understanding of the main characters (Professor and Sheriff). Overall this was a pretty decent read. Great job Hakok.

Knowing Vera ~ Rachelle Ayala

Knowing Vera (Chance For Love, #3)Knowing Vera by Rachelle Ayala
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow Rachelle Ayala’s fiction novel “Knowing Vera” is an amazing piece of work. Knowing Vera brings a mixture of fiction, drama, and mixes it solidly with murder mystery. Ayala gives a strong young woman the drive to focus on discovering the truth in many facets of her life; whether is love, true happiness and in this case finding the truth about her family and the ties to others that she holds dear to her heart. Vera is this young woman and Ayala gives her a voice and thank goodness the common sense and smarts to navigate through life and face past demons to obtain the truth of who the killers are versus who have been wronged in a past murder that has tainted her life so many years ago.

As a reader, I appreciate the simplicity and straightforward structure Ayala displays within this novel. She did not linger on too much background information it inundate readers and bore them; she gave just enough information to keep readers interesting in the storyline. Also, leaving out just enough information to keep the mystery alive.

When you are forced to reevaluate your family, friends and those you have trusted so long to determine “Do I really know this person, will they harm me” you will then know how Vera felt about all the characters placed in her path (Taytay, Zack, Louie, Cliff). Rachelle Ayala produced an amazing dramatic fiction in “Knowing Vera.” This novel is a quick read that will give you its worth in suspense, drama and romance.

Consequences: Betrayal. Sacrifice. Passion ~ Martha Kennerson

ConsequencesConsequences by Martha Kennerson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! Consequences: Betrayal. Sacrifice. Passion by Martha Kennerson is a well-written novel. This novel’s title explains it all. The emotions and believability Kennerson bestowed in Kristine’s character moved me. It was as if I were one of Kristine’s closest friends experiencing it all: the happy times and the not so happy times. The novel Consequences tells the story of young Kristine’s life. A young privileged woman with nothing but good things professed in her future, Kristine for lack of better had the “good life.” As the saying goes “All Good things must come to an end,” tragedy strikes young Kristines life. Kennerson takes us, the readers, on a journey on how Kristine deals with the struggles of life. She learns about herself and she learns on whose shoulder she can lean on. This is a great coming of age story; growing up fast and taking full responsibility for one’s self.

Consequences: Betrayal. Sacrifice. Passion was a great read. The tight friendships Kennerson displayed within this novel gives hope to those who may be struggling through tough times. Yes, this novel was an emotional rollercoaster; but so is life. Great job Kennerson great job.

Launched ~ Victor Rappoport

LaunchedLaunched by Victor Rappoport
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Victor Rappoport delivers quite a punch in the novel Launched. Never have a read a novel with a plot so thick and delivers so much action without losing itself in the mayhem of blowing stuff up and killing everybody. Rappoport lays down the foundation with a finesse that I, as the reader, never expected that he was just setting us up for the punch line. The main characters in this novel, Trishka and Mason, were well thought out and well placed. Trishka is displayed as a woman from Russia running away from the bad guys (Vladmir and Yuri). Trishka is not a soft, woe-is- me type of lady, she is a fighter and her struggles she bears from the beginning to end makes this novel a great read in itself. Mason, an agent and in some circles the good guy, does what he cans to help right many wrongs. The two characters together display a world wind of adventures, losts, loves, and when mixed perfectly by Rappoport made a very exciting story.

Launched is an action fiction novel with lots a suspense, drama and a little romance. Victor Rappoport did an amazing job and I cannot wait to pick up another one of his novels.

Eagle: Birds of Flight ~ J.M. Erickson

Eagle: Birds of Flight - Book ThreeEagle: Birds of Flight - Book Three by J.M. Erickson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

J.M. Erickson never disappoints me. Erickson's novels are always filled with action and great characters that you just pull for and hope that everything will turn out right in what is sure be a very messed up situation. Erickson wrote yet another amazing action novel. We pick up with Burns and the team and of course Emma and Becky. This book flawlessly picks up where book 2 Raven leaves off. Emma has grown a little bit and we discover more about her background. This book answers quite a few questions, Erickson gives hints into the lives of the operatives that are helping keep Emma and the family safe as well as a little more insight into Burn's character. While we delve into why all of these people have been brought together to bring down corrupt agents we see that no matter how hard and trained they are; they're still people and emotions can run high in stressful situations. I do not want to give away the plot of this book as it is too good to spoil for potential readers. Needless to say you will not be disappointed and it will leave you asking for more.

The House of Tomorrow ~ Adair Arlen

The House of TomorrowThe House of Tomorrow by Adair Arlen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The House of Tomorrow was an amazing read. Arlen made this novel read like a soap opera to me. There is drama, romance, suspense and plenty of twists and turns to make me (the reader) continuously stay interested. The main characters Paul Gregory and Liliane Greening were constructed with such care at times I found myself reading the novel anticipating what would happen next.

I am a sucker for a good love story, but Arlen had me on a suspenseful romantic roller coaster ride. Not to give anything away about this story, because it should be read in its entirety, Arlen ability to give some many details to her characters that you could visualize them as if watching a movie instead of just reading words on a page.

I am now a fan of Arlen’s work and look forward to reading more books like The House of Tomorrow in the near future.

Acting Obsessed ~ Peter Silverman

Acting ObsessedActing Obsessed by Peter Silverman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Acting Obsessed is a very involved thriller fiction. Silverman really digs deep into the developing the main characters in particular the female, Ginger. At points in the story you begin to question the sanity of all the characters involved. Silverman also put a little bit of mystery in with the storyline. I found that every time I thought I had all the puzzle pieces together, Silverman threw something in the mix that had me doubting my resolution.

This novel will have you literally on the edge of your seat anticipating on what will happen to the young actress next. Well written and I love the way it flowed seamlessly. There were, in my opinion, no dull sections to make me want to put the novel down and pick it up some other time. I had to solve the mystery then and there.

Great work

Pals: Women, & Grenades ~ J. Angelo Greco III

Pals: Women, & GrenadesPals: Women, & Grenades by J. Angelo Greco III
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

PALS is filled with action and suspense. Greco really displayed what a true friendship means with his two main characters Joe and David. It shows how two guys from different backgrounds and cultures become more than best friends they are PALS (as the title implies). This novel for the most part was pretty good. The beginning to me was a little slow, but of course in this type of story you really have to get the background information laid down. The reader has to know how the two main characters became so close as friends in order to understand why they reacted the way they do to certain situations brought to them in their adult life.

Greco does good job midway through the novel introduces key players in the plot. I especially like how he combines stories from Joe and David's past into the ever growing mystery of a plot he develops. PALS was a pretty easy read, kind of slow in the beginning; but the reader needs to stick with it, the novel picks up and then it shoots off with lots of action, drama, and piece by piece an ever growing friendship.

The Publicist ~ Christina George

The Publicist (Book One)The Publicist by Christina George
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Upon deciding to read The Publicist I did not know what to expect. I was presently surprised how the book just flows. Literally I could not put it down, knocked it out the span of two and a half hours. George did her thing, she gave us a glimpse into the world of a publicist. Who knew how multi-talented one has to be just to get an author published, out to the masses and not to mention dealing with their egos and the competition of other publicists. It is a dog eat dog world.

George gives us comedy, drama, a realness within this novel. It is not a short story but just long enough for some comfortable reading with a simple plot that grasps you just enough to keep you wanting to know more. I am very delighted to know that George is making a part two. There are so many story lines that can be explored. If a quick read with bits of drama/comedy/romance is what you need, do not sleep on Christina George's novel "The Publicist."

Unintended Consequences ~ Marti Green

Unintended ConsequencesUnintended Consequences by Marti Green
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A legal thriller of unparalleled proportions, Marti Green provides an amazing novel in Unintended Consequences. This novel grabbed me in the very first chapter. Green wastes no time with frivolous wordiness as you may sometimes encounter with novelists, she gets straight to the point. The main lawyers are portrayed as really strong characters, knowledgeable and consistent in wanting to get to the truth of the missing girl/murdered girl. Upon purchasing this book I did not really know what to expect. This was my first thriller novel and quite frankly I equated "thriller novel" with gore. Green has none of that in this novel.

Unintended Consequences is a well written novel that catches you early while giving the reader enough twists and turns to keep them off balance of solving the mystery. I quite enjoyed this adventure into the legal system and will be reading more of Marti Green in the near future.

Turtle Bay ~ Helga Stipa Madland

Turtle BayTurtle Bay by Helga Stipa Madland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Helga Stipa Madlang places a nice twist on a detective/drama novel. Turtle Bay's main character is a male dective, father and friend who is raising twin daughters with the help of a trusted friend. As preteens go his twin daughters are a true handful and mean well in their endeavors but always manage to get in trouble, yet he still loves them with his whole heart and tries to raise them to be strong women.

Turtle Bay is definitely a mystery within a mystery. Madland writing style was simple to follow there are a few times where it seemed like the editing had been left in the novel (possible corrections that should have been removed prior to production of the novel), but this does not distract from the novel. They were small and irrelevant. Madland provides just enough clues into the mystery without inadvertently giving the plot and culprit away.

This was an extremely pleasant read

Awesome - Abigail Arrington

AWESOME (Riley Morgan series)AWESOME by Abigail Arrington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awesome is just that, Awesome.  This novel brings a new swing to what I would like to call the Law and Order.  Arrington gives an A+ writing performance in this book.  Both main characters Riley and Sam keep the reader on their toes in regards to how they react to one another and other key characters in the story.  This book had everything I wanted in it.  There's action, suspense, drama, romance and a little comedy here and there.  Arrington found a way to capture CSI, Law and Order and McGyver all in one novel without it seeming overcrowded and losing sense of the plot.

Awesome was an emotional roller coaster ride with plenty of upside down turns.  Arrington portrays a strong independent woman in Riley.  Sam portrays a smart, handsome supposedly lady's man.  But the journey of these two needs to be portrayed more in Arrington's upcoming novel.

I cannot wait for the next novel.
