The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix ~ Book Review

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying VampiresThe Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I didn't really know what to expect starting this book. I was unfamiliar with Grady Hendrix as an author. Upon reading the synopsis I felt this was right up my alley. It starts off slow but trust me when you get through the first ten chapters it picks up tremendously. I found myself identifying slightly with the women of the book club. My favorite character seesaws between Kitty and Slick. All of the women had their strengths and definitely had some weaknesses they had to attempt to conquer. This book, once it got going, really held my attention and drove me to keep reading to find out what the heck a book club would do when confronted with vampires.

Blooded: Anunnaki Rising ~ Lyn Murray

BLOODED [Anunnaki Rising] (THE BLOODED SAGA)BLOODED [Anunnaki Rising] by Lyn Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Before reading Lyn Murray's Blooded I thought I was well versed in the paranormal faction of Vampire folklore and fiction. Blooded definitely provides a brand new spin on things. Murray kept me in a constant state of suspense with Steve's character. You knew his sort of way of having dreams were paramount to the plot of the story. I could not put the book down. This novel is a far cry from the vampire movies that are currently out. No poorly botched romance to muddle the focus of the novel. Murray has a true talent in drawing her audience in giving just enough mystery and action to sway them one way and then "BAM" new information is presented to have you thinking a whole twist is added to the story. The main characters are so well crafted, just an overall great read. I cannot wait to read the other novels in this saga.

Reborn ~ C.C. Spivey

RebornReborn by C.C. Spivey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reborn by C.C. Spivey was an incredible read. It was a historical paranormal fiction of sorts. Spivey brought us back to the time of slavery where main character Mayan, of mixed heritage, grows up in slavery. Born to a black mother with a slave owner for a father, Mayan young childhood was ripped from her. Being sold into slavery, we (the readers) take a journey on Mayan's young life filled with abuse, rape and dreams of someone coming to her rescue. Tytarion, a strong intelligent free black vampire gives Mayan a new view of life filled with adventures and drama of having a relationship.

The cover to this novel was quite impressive. The eyes are the soul of Maya. The title written in blood was a great way to portray vampirism. This was a well written novel that kept me wanting more.

The Impaler's Revenge ~ Ioana Visan

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

The Impaler's Revenge (The Impaler Legacy, #1)The Impaler's Revenge by Ioana Visan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Ioana Visan's novel The Impaler's Revenge is quite a twist on the vampire versus human saga. This is not your ordinary Vampire novel as the human's are killing vampires and have sectioned themselves and are ruled by a President and Little Council. Member's of this council and the citizens they protect rule under one law; kill all vampires that dare cross into their town. So why does the President invite an one thousand year old vampire to town?

Visan gives you a strong woman character, Liana, who surrounds herself with friends and coworkers that are looking out for the greater good of the town. Even when corrupt politician and bad vampires threaten their peaceful existence; Lilian and her crew remain vigilant.

The Impaler's Revenge gives the reader background on the struggle between right and wrong. This book sets the series up right and I cannot wait to read book #2.

On the Edge of Humanity ~ S.B. Alexander

On the Edge of HumanityOn the Edge of Humanity by S.B. Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

On the Edge of Humanity is a paranormal young adult fictional that displays all the typical growing pains of being a teenager but with a twist. Alexander brings tons of twists and turns with the many characters involved. The main character, Jo is a growing teen who happens to be a twin. Among normal teen issues such a puberty, she has abandonment issues as well as authority issues. I was surprised and pleasantly happy that Alexander stayed away from the "Woe is Me" stereotypical plot that is normal found with young adult novels. Jo's character evolves in more ways than one.

Alexander does an excellent job in giving the reader real drama, action, and hormones in On the Edge of Humanity. How can you go wrong bring vampires and navy seals together? The plot will never get boring that's for sure. I will definitely be reading Book 2 of these series.
